Sosai Randy Martin, Head Grappling Instructor –
Before becoming of the founders of Phoenix Karate Academy, I spent 12 years studying karate, as well as judo (in the military), and wrestling and boxing (in school). It was my childhood dream to learn karate, and I have always been intrigued with the martial arts. I’m happy to say I quit smoking at 45 years of age, and thought,”If ever there was a time to do it, it was now.” Fueled by the exceptional people of Phoenix Academy of Martial Arts, now (at 58 years of age) the encouragement to stay actively involved is always present and appreciated. I am also very involved in finance and in church.

Sosai Bill Parquette, Head Self-Defense Instructor –
Evan, my son, started karate in 1999 when he was four years old. I new that I had to get involved. I started with kick boxing and a self defense class, from there I was hooked. I earned my Black belt in Self-Defense under guidance of Sensei Rich Pelletier and Sensei Matt Vataso, and the help of many others. I formed some strong bonds, and made friends that will last a life time. I earned my black belt in 2004. The test itself was a fantastic battle physically and mentally, and at the end a good friend held me on my feet, after trying to take said feet out from under me, thanks Harry. In 2010, I was invited to join The Phoenix Academy of Martial Arts, and my journey reached another level. I was (and I am) lucky enough to be part of an outstanding group of martial artists that created a new style of Karate called Pinan-do, by combining two traditional Japanese arts and following the traditions of their original masters… It has been a long exciting ride and I am proud to invest myself fully. I thank all my teachers, students and peers, for you all have made me a better person. – Sosai Bill
